Why do people keep discouraging me from walking?

Twice this week, people have discouraged me from walking!

Today, I asked the man at the information booth if I could WALK to the other airport terminal.  He said, “yes, walk to that bus and it will take you there.”  But, I could see the other terminal!  I asked if I could just walk all the way there.  He looked at me, puzzled, and answered “yes.”  And so I walked a half mile there (and back).

Earlier this week, I was walking down 4 flights of stairs from the ballroom of the Palmer House Hotel in Chicago.  A waiter stopped me, and told me I was going the wrong way, and pointed out the way to the elevator.  But I could see and hear the lobby below me!  I asked him, “can’t I just continue down these stairs and get to the lobby?”  He, too,  looked at me, puzzled, and answered “yes.”
