Yes, we are blessed with high blood pressure medicine (that reduce strokes, cholesterol medications, joint replacement surgery, etc. But, they cost $$$, and they have side effects. Recent stories point out that:
- Statin (cholesterol drugs) can cause fatigue and diabetes.
- Proton pump inhibitors (for heartburn) can lead to more pneumonia, bone fractures, and malabsorption of important nutrients.
- A variety of weight loss drugs have had side effects such as heart valve problems, diarrhea, and psychiatric disturbances.
- Breathing machines (CPAP) can treat sleep apnea, except that most people aren’t able to tolerate it.
Since losing weight (and keeping it off for more than 2 years – I do the same things today that I did to lose the weight), I’m off of high blood pressure medicines, my bad cholesterol has gone way low, and my good cholesterol has risen with exercise. And I feel so much better!
