Farmed vs. wild fish

Wild fish may have more healthy fish oils than farmed fish, and may reduce cardiovascular risk factors more.  Some farmed salmon have orange color added to their feed so that they look like wild salmon with its natural color.

This year, for the first time, farmed fish has surpassed wild fish in the amount produced for food:

PARIS — Aquaculture is overtaking traditional fisheries in global production, the Food and Agriculture Organization said Monday, but a scientist with the organization, a United Nations body, said that the practice could not continue growing indefinitely at the current pace.

While fresh wild fish may be expensive, canned wild salmon, sardines, or mackerel offer a more economical choice.  I look for canned fish packed without salt; many overweight and obese people have high blood pressure and consume more than the daily recommended amount of salt.
