Chocolate (dark chocolate, or regular chocolate with at least 60-70% cocoa), consumed in moderate amounts, really does strengthen a weak heart. According to researchers, dark chocolate is a cost-effective (at $42 per person per year) treatment for people at risk for heart disease. It helps to control blood pressure and cholesterol as well.
daily consumption of dark chocolate — … equivalent to 100 grams of dark chocolate — can reduce cardiovascular events by 85 per 10,000 population over 10 years.
…with 100% compliance, treatment would prevent 70 non-fatal and 15 fatal cardiovascular events per 10,000 population over that time.
I add a tablespoon of pure cocoa to my oatmeal every morning for breakfast. It is rich in antioxidants and adds great flavor 🙂 I would prescribe it in conjunction with regular exercise, more veggies, adequate sleep etc. That combo promises not only weight loss but reduced risk of preventable diseases.
BEWARE of milk and white chocolate, they contain toxic ingredients that may weaken hearts 🙁
